Top-line winger Toffoli traded to Flames

Montreal Canadiens’ Tyler Toffoli has joined fellow NHL franchise Calgary Flames, with forward (a 2022 first-round draft pick) Tyler Pitlick and prospect Emil Heineman (a 2023 fifth-round selection) heading in the opposite direction.

Toffoli has posted impressive stats for a side that are currently in last place, finishing second for scoring, with a nine-goal haul, equating to 26 points across 37 games.

The season prior to that meanwhile, Toffoli emphatic 28 goals and 44 points were crucial in guiding the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup final, against all the odds.

A solid addition for the Flames

While at the Flames, Toffoli can be expected to blaze a similar trail and at still only 29, he certainly has some of his best years ahead of him.

Although his tenure at the Los Angeles Kings (2013 – 2020) saw him enjoy some of the best seasons of his career and his arrival at the Flames will add a lot of experience to their roster. Indeed, during the Kings’ 2014 Stanley Cup run, he was a major offensive component and regularly contributed more than 20 goals per season.

The Flames have had an impressive campaign, currently second in the Pacific Division and have a great chance of making the playoffs, where they can then push on, next season, especially with Toffoli among their ranks.

This season, currently, Andrew Mangiapane tops the scoring charts for the Flames, with 24 goals and throwing the prolific Toffoli into the mix makes for a highly intriguing proposition and can certainly make them strong Stanley Cup contenders.

Throw into the mix Elias Lindholm, Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachuk, who all have between 17 and 21 goals respectively for this season and all of a sudden, it seems as if Toffoli could be joining a winning side.
